Michelle O’Doherty has been at Bayne Sellar Ertel Macrae since she began her articles in 2011. She was called to the bar in 2012 and has been practicing in criminal defence since then. During her time with the firm, Michelle has worked on various files involving the following criminal offences: murder, impaired by drug, impaired by alcohol, aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm, firearm trafficking, drug trafficking, sexual assault/sexual interference, and offences involving criminal organizations. Michelle represents individuals who have been found not criminally responsible and are under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board. Ms. O’Doherty regularly appears before the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Review Board.
Michelle completed her law degree at the University of Ottawa where she graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor in June 2011. She completed a Joint Honours in Political Science and History also at the University of Ottawa, graduating magna cum laude in June 2008. Michelle was on the executive of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa as a Junior Director and is on the legislation committee of the Criminal Lawyers Association. She volunteers with the Ontario Justice Education Network to provide legal information to young people about the justice system. Michelle also teaches part-time at Algonquin College in the paralegal program.
Outside of work, Michelle has been a volunteer with the organization LiveWorkPlay for over 10 years and most recently was on their board for four years. She is also a member of the Rotary Club of Ottawa Metro.
